SALEM, Ore. (AP) - State Rep. Tobias Read is planning a run for Oregon treasurer.

The Beaverton Democrat announced his plans on Wednesday.

Read worked at the U.S. Treasury Department during Bill Clinton’s administration. He’s a former Nike product developer who was first elected to the state House in 2006.

He says the treasurer’s office is integral to the state’s financial health. The office manages the state’s day-to-day finances as well as billions of dollars in investments.

Incumbent Democratic Treasurer Ted Wheeler is term limited.
