PETAL, Miss. (AP) - Petal aldermen have overridden a mayor’s veto a new ordinance that makes vaping illegal in local public buildings.

The board of aldermen made one change in the ordinance sought Tuesday by Mayor Hal Marx.

The Hattiesburg American reports (https://hatne.ws/1MeIFd2 ) that Marx proposed - and the board agreed - that certain locations be exempt from the ban, such as places that exclusively sell such products.

Marx says people usually know what they are getting into and what is in tobacco store when they walk in.

The board of aldermen voted last month to amend the current ordinance against smoking in public places to include devices such as electronic cigarettes and similar devices.

Marx said in his veto that businesses should be able to decide whether to ban e-cigarettes.
