ANSONIA, Conn. (AP) - Police say a man was found dead after a fire broke out at a Connecticut house.

Crews arrived at a house in Ansonia at around 5:20 p.m. on Tuesday and found the residence engulfed in flames.

Fire officials say a woman who lived there told them that her male companion was still inside the home and unable to escape.

His body was found after firefighters extinguished the blaze. Authorities didn’t immediately identify him.

It’s unclear what caused the fire.

The state Fire Marshal’s Office, Ansonia fire marshal and Ansonia police are investigating the incident.
