BARRINGTON, N.H. (AP) - Authorities have recovered the body of a 44-year-old man who went under the water and didn’t resurface while swimming at a pond in Barrington.

The New Hampshire State Police Marine Patrol says the man was swimming with a friend on Stonehouse Pond when he went under while attempting to cross the body of water. It happened just after 4 p.m. Tuesday.

Police, fire and municipal rescue units were unable to locate him. The state Fish and Game department led recovery efforts Wednesday morning. WMUR-TV reports the body of the man was found at about 11 a.m.

The victim’s identity has not been made public.

An investigation is continuing.
