MEXICO CITY (AP) - Marines in Mexico say they discovered an underground arms cache that contained dozens of assault rifles and thousands of rounds of ammunition.

The Navy Department said Wednesday that the chamber was found near the northern city of Reynosa on Tuesday. Reynosa is across the border from McAllen, Texas.

Photos of the scene showed a metal trap door in a wooded area that led to an underground chamber. Inside, marines found 33 assault rifles and three machine pistols as well as 5,579 rounds of ammunition for assault rifles.
