LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - A new arm of the Nebraska athletic department has been created to collect and analyze data related to performances of teams and individual athletes.

Nebraska announced Wednesday that Tucker Zeleny would be the director of sports analytics and data analysis.

Associate athletic director for performance and strategic research Steve Waterfield said the work of Zeleny and his staff would help give Nebraska teams a competitive advantage.

Zeleny earned his doctorate in statistics from Nebraska in May.

Zeleny is from Carleton, Nebraska, and has worked as a data analyst at Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital and the Nebraska Athletic Performance Laboratory.
