SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - South Charleston police say the mention of a gun has prompted a lockdown at Thomas Hospital.

Lt. R.T. Yeager says one person had been taken to the hospital’s emergency room after a family disturbance in St. Albans on Wednesday. While the patient’s relatives gathered at the hospital, a gun from the earlier disturbance was mentioned, and a man then left the hospital. Yeager said there was no indication that a gun had been brought to the hospital and no charges were immediately filed.

Hospital spokeswoman Paige Johnson says the security issue was reported about 1:15 p.m. Wednesday. Johnson says South Charleston police and the Kanawha County sheriff’s office were notified and the hospital was placed on lockdown as a precaution for about two hours.
