GREENVILLE, Miss. (AP) - Boaters are being told to slow down on Lake Ferguson.

The Washington County Board of Supervisors approved a no wake ordinance during high water times - such as now.

Supervisor Troy Wesley tells the Delta Democrat-Times (https://bit.ly/1IJAwyv ) the action was taken Tuesday after the board heard complaints from lake-area residents. He says boaters will have to slow down when they get near residents’ houses.

Supervisors are looking to place a buoy-style warning sign in the upper part of lake.

Supervisors say local authorities will monitor the area.

Wesley says wakes become an issue when the water level approaches flood stage of 48 feet.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is forecasting the flood stage to reach 49 feet in Greenville by July 15.
