DENVER (AP) - Prosecutors will not charge a parole officer who shot and wounded a man who pulled a gun on her at an apartment complex in Aurora.

The Adams County District Attorney’s Office said Thursday the officer was justified when she shot Michael Meeks after he pulled a semi-automatic handgun on her while officers were checking in on a parolee June 8.

The Denver Post reports (https://goo.gl/9mbWnZ ) that after the officers identified themselves, a fight broke out between them and Meeks. Meeks pulled out a gun, and the parole officer shot him in the abdomen.

The DA says the officer indicated she thought her life and the lives of others were in “grave danger” when she fired her weapon.

Meeks, who did not fire his weapon, has been charged with first-degree assault.
