GULFPORT, Miss. (AP) - Authorities say several people in Harrison County have reported being victims of a scam involving accusations they missed jury duty.

Sheriff Melvin Brisolara tells The Sun Herald (https://bit.ly/1NV9mVn) the victims received phone calls from people identifying themselves as Harrison County sheriff’s deputies. Brisolara says the callers told the victims they had missed jury duty and have warrants out for their arrests.

He says the victims were instructed to obtain pre-pay credit cards and send them to an address provided by the callers in exchange for the charges being dropped.

The sheriff says anyone receiving such a call should not purchase any type of card or send any form of payment.
