FRISCO, Colo. (AP) - A procession in honor of a Flight for Life helicopter pilot killed last week headed up Interstate 70 Thursday in advance of his memorial service.

Patrick Mahany, a 64-year-old decorated Vietnam veteran, was killed Friday when his chopper crashed shortly after taking off from St. Anthony Summit Medical Center in Frisco.

An ambulance with lights flashing headed west on the highway toward Frisco as a Flight for Life helicopter flew above. Before leaving the Denver area, the procession passed workers gathered outside St. Anthony Hospital in Lakewood. On I-70, firefighters, EMTs and others waiting on overpasses saluted as the procession passed.

The Summit Daily News (https://bit.ly/1HQnaQi ) reports the procession will continue on to the Dillon Ampitheatre on Friday morning for Mahany’s memorial service.
