CORBIN, Ky. (AP) - The (Corbin) Times-Tribune has named staff writer John L. Ross as managing editor.

The daily newspaper in southern Kentucky reports (https://bit.ly/1LUn4su) Ross began serving in the position Monday. Former editor Becky Killian left the paper on June 30.

Ross said he began his career in journalism at the age of 16 at the Bristol Herald & Courier in Virginia. After graduating from the University of New Mexico with a bachelor’s degree in mass communications, he served in various positions at newspapers in North Carolina before being named managing editor at The Citizen Tribune in Morristown, Tennessee.

Ross left the journalism field for a while before being hired at The Times-Tribune.

Publisher Willie Sawyers said he expects Ross to be an effective managing editor after serving successfully as a reporter for two years.
