JONESBORO, Ark. (AP) - Jonesboro’s mayor wants to move the police department’s firing range because of concerns that it backs up to a residential neighborhood.

Mayor Harold Perrin tells the Jonesboro Sun (https://bit.ly/1LUFRns ) he’s concerned for public safety after he was recently shooting his gun at the range and saw kids behind him riding bicycles in the area.

The city has developed a plan to build a new firing range near its street and sanitation department facilities. The current range is located within Craighead Forest Park and also backs up to homes.

The Jonesboro City Council’s Public Works Committee endorsed the plan Tuesday, and the full council will consider the proposal July 21.
