PHOENIX (AP) - Police say a man has been arrested in a fatal shooting at a Phoenix apartment complex.

They say Zachary Adams is being held on suspicion of second-degree murder and misconduct involving weapons.

Police say the shooting occurred around 3:30 a.m. Thursday at the Deer Valley Regency Apartments near 23rd Avenue and Deer Valley Road.

The 24-year-old Adams was drinking Wednesday night in the apartment of 36-year-old Chris Sayers.

Adams reportedly was questioned about his use of a private bathroom in the apartment and returned with a handgun.

Witnesses say the two men walked a short distance away from the apartment when Adams fired a warning shot and then allegedly shot Sayers, who died at the scene.

Adams called police to report the incident. It’s unclear if he has an attorney.
