RAY BROOK, N.Y. (AP) - The Adirondack Park Agency is scheduled to take action on a plan for new snowmobile trails linking communities in Essex and Hamilton counties.

The community connector trails proposed by the state Department of Environmental Conservation would link Newcomb and North Hudson and Newcomb and Minerva. The plan includes a new bridge across the Boreas River.

The environmental group Protect the Adirondacks is calling on the APA to reject the snowmobile trail plan, saying it violates the Wild, Scenic and Recreational Rivers Act and would require vast construction through wild Forest Preserve lands. The group says many private landowners have also opposed the construction on their property.

The APA is slated to take up the issue at its meeting Thursday in Ray Brook.
