WEST BLOOMFIELD, Mich. (AP) - An official at the U.S. Department of Education says federal agents have raided the Southfield offices of the Michigan Jewish Institute.

Catherine Grant, a spokeswoman for the Department of Education’s office of the Inspector General, told the Detroit Free Press (https://on.freep.com/1J5DEjY ) that a search warrant was executed Tuesday. The newspaper reports she did not say why the raid took place.

The university was founded in 1994 and is tied to the local chapter of the Chabad-Lubavitch. The Orthodox Jewish group has a campus in the Detroit suburb of West Bloomfield.

The institute’s website says it offers curriculums in business, computer information systems and Judaic studies.

The Associated Press left a phone message for the school seeking comment after business hours Wednesday.
