BEND, Ore. (AP) - Bend officials have prepared an offer in an ongoing effort to take control of the dam holding back Mirror Pond.

The Bend Bulletin reports (https://bit.ly/1LU8QIc ) last week, members of the Mirror Pond Ad Hoc Committee outlined an offer that would transfer ownership of the dam from PacifiCorp into the hands of local control. Bend officials declined to comment on specifics of the offer Wednesday.

Years-long discussions over how to dredge the silt accumulation in the pond and prevent it from becoming a mudflat have surrounded the more than 100-year-old dam.

The committee has proposed to replace the dam, allowing for an upstream fish passage and downstream passage for kayakers.

Bend Park & Recreation District Executive Director Don Horton says the offer could be sent to PacifiCorp in about a month.
