COOS BAY, Ore. (AP) - Oregon Health and Science University is moving forward with plans to open its Coos Bay campus that will support the advancement of rural health.

The Coos Bay World reports (https://bit.ly/1Rm6K8o ) the rural campus will have 12 to 15 students in their respective fields from various OHSU medical programs. The Coos Bay campus will train students and allow them to serve residents in the area. The first group of students is set to begin Sept. 28.

The campus is being funded by a grant from the Oregon Community Foundation that is providing $60,000 for three years.

The program was first announced in November, but details surrounding the Coos Bay campus have only recently been settled. A second rural campus site is in Klamath Falls.
