NEW ORLEANS (AP) - The Louisiana Education Department has launched its online portal that gives parents, teachers and others a chance to provide opinions on state standards in English language arts and mathematics.

The portal is an element of a compromise reached in the Legislature between supporters and opponents of Common Core standards.

Under that plan, educators and experts on four committees will review the national standards and report back to the state Board of Elementary and Secondary Education. That board will vote on the standards by March and send them to the governor and Legislature.
