ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) - Police say a suspect in a string of upstate New York armed robberies has been shot after slashing an officer’s arm.

Authorities say two officers from the Rochester suburb of Gates confronted 34-year-old Shaun Zimmer at about 12:30 p.m. Thursday in Rochester.

Town and city officials say Zimmer was shot several times in the lower body after attacking Officer Patrick Ellison with a knife and cutting his arm.

Investigators had been looking for Zimmer based on surveillance video from some of the convenience stores robbed over the weekend and earlier this week.

The officials say both men are being treated at hospitals and their injuries aren’t life-threatening.

Information on whether Zimmer has a lawyer wasn’t initially available.
