PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - The city of Providence has enacted an initiative to implement the city’s sustainability plan that’s aimed at reducing the effects of climate change through community outreach.

Mayor Jorge Elorza says the city needs to do a better job informing the community about programs intended to reduce their carbon footprints.

The city’s Sustain PVD website provides resources to residents including information about carpooling, solar energy programs, home energy assessments and other programs.

Elorza says Sustain PVD is all about engaging the public and providing access to important information.

The mayor says his goal is higher rates of recycling, composting, walking and biking with other more environmental-friendly endeavors.
