GULFPORT, Miss. (AP) - The Motor Vehicle for Hire Authority will hold a public hearing on proposed regulations for companies such as Uber.

The regulations would apply to all so-called “transportation network companies,” but Uber, a ride-hailing service that has boomed in popularity across the country while irking traditional taxi companies, is the only one operating on the Gulf Coast.

The company began serving the Coast on June 11 but is operating outside current vehicle-for-hire regulations.

The Sun Herald reports (https://bit.ly/1J5TQle) the meeting Thursday is open to the public and will be at 5:30 p.m. in the Terminal Conference room of the Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport in Gulfport.
