JENNINGS, La. (AP) - Jefferson Davis Parish sheriff’s deputies say 51-year-old Reeves man died while trying to steal copper from a utility pole.

Deputies tell the American Press (https://bit.ly/1eOXZNb) three others were arrested Wednesday on theft charges in connection with the theft and damage to eight power lines.

Chris Ivey, commander of the sheriff’s office criminal investigations division, says Jesse Jones III was electrocuted while trying to pull down copper wires from poles near U.S. Highway 165 and Farm Road, near Fenton and Lacassine.

Ivey says Jones was found unresponsive and taken to Lake Charles Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Three others arrested at the scene were booked with theft over $10,000.

They are being held without bond in the parish jail.
