PHILADELPHIA (AP) - The chairman of a Philadelphia special services district has resigned over accusations of misappropriating organization funds.

The Philadelphia Inquirer reports (https://bit.ly/1fpUPpx ) Dan Christensen stepped down as chairman of the South Street Headhouse District last month. The Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office is investigating his handling of its finances.

The co-owner of the Copabanana and Redwood restaurants didn’t return calls seeking comment. Charges haven’t been filed.

District Executive Director Michael Harris says the money involved is modest compared to the organization’s assets. Its annual operating budget is $700,000.

But Harris says they don’t condone the actions. He says the district intends to get restitution and “follow any legal paths that come with it.”

The district is funded by assessments on properties in the area and provides services including sidewalk and street cleaning.
