PINSON, Ala. (AP) - A former Pinson Valley High School teacher has been placed on probation after pleading guilty to having sexual contact with a student.

AL.com (https://bit.ly/1HdohWq) reports that 27-year-old Jennifer Marie Perry of Odenville was sentenced Wednesday in Jefferson County District Court to six months in jail, which the judge suspended, placing Perry on probation for a year.

Perry was also ordered to pay a $250 fine and will have to register as a sex offender.

In March, Perry was arrested and charged with having sexual contact with a 17-year-old student at the school. Authorities had launched an investigation of Perry after being contacted by school administrators.

The sheriff’s office and court records say that Perry and the student met off campus and engaged in a consensual sex act on Feb. 8.
