MILWAUKEE (AP) - A 15-year-old boy has been charged as an adult in the fatal shooting of a 14-year-old boy shortly after a fireworks display on Milwaukee’s lakefront.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel (https://bit.ly/1Tn7rw0 ) reports the 15-year-old is accused of shooting Tariq Akbar in the back of the head on July 3. The suspect was charged Wednesday with first-degree reckless homicide.

A criminal complaint says Akbar was with a group leaving the lakefront after fireworks when a group of about 12 people, including the suspect, approached them. Police have said the confrontation started with an online fight over a girl that didn’t involve Akbar.

According to the complaint, the defendant fired several shots at Akbar and people he was with.

A vigil in Akbar’s memory was held Tuesday.
