METAIRIE, La. (AP) - Trader Joe’s has signed a lease to establish its second Louisiana grocery store - and the first in the New Orleans metro area.

Multiple media outlets report that the California-based grocery chain announced on Wednesday that store will open a location in Metairie in the second half of 2016.

The 10,200-square-foot facility will sell food, wine, beer and liquor at the corner of Veterans Memorial Boulevard and North Labarre Road as part of the planned redevelopment of the long-vacant Tolmas Tract property.

The announcement comes about a year after the Jefferson Parish Council approved the re-subdivision of the Tolmas tract.

The council recently signed off on plans to build a shopping center with 45,000 square feet of retail space.
