PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - A Providence man who was shot earlier this week has died.

Police say 23-year-old Dimitri Perry was found shot outside a car on a Providence street in the early morning hours of July 6. He was rushed to Rhode Island Hospital in critical condition and has now died.

Perry’s death is the city’s eighth homicide this year.

Minutes after he was shot, police responded to reports of gunfire and a car chase near the State House and Roger Williams National Memorial Park.

Police found 27-year-old Joao Dos Santos of Pawtucket lying on the sidewalk with a fatal gunshot wound.

Investigators say the shooting do not appear connected, though both could be gang-related.
