SARATOGA SPRINGS, Utah (AP) - A 69-year-old woman has fought back against a man who tried to carjack her vehicle and then allegedly set her house on fire.

The Deseret News reports (https://bit.ly/1QjPTNM ) 38-year-old Christopher Bigler jumped into Frances Mach’s car when she pulled into the driveway of her daughter’s home Saturday.

Mach says Bigler ordered her to drive him away. She then hit him in the head repeatedly before he stumbled out of the car.

Saratoga Springs spokesman Owen Jackson says Bigler then broke into the townhouse through a basement window. A fire started upstairs before police could get in.

Jackson says he didn’t know how the fire began.

Police found Bigler upstairs, and he was flown to University Hospital in critical condition. He suffered from burns, smoke inhalation and punches to the face.
