FORT GRATIOT TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - Authorities say four dogs have died in a weekend house fire in St. Clair County.

Fort Gratiot fire Chief Patrick Smith tells the Times Herald of Port Huron (https://bwne.ws/1EOf0Si ) that people living in the home got out Saturday without being injured, but the dogs died.

The fire was contained to a back bedroom of the home in Fort Gratiot Township, about 55 miles northeast of Detroit. There was extensive smoke and heat damage throughout the home.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
