PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Prosecutors say a driver accused of injuring four Philadelphia police officers before he was shot by police has been released from a hospital.

The Philadelphia Daily News (https://bit.ly/1FmRMTZ ) reports that 47-year-old Rudolph Keitt Jr. is now being held at Curran-Fromhold Correctional Facility in Holmesburg.

Authorities allege that Keitt hit a wall May 12, then struggled with responding officers and drove off, striking three officers and injuring a fourth two miles away before he was shot.

Defense attorney Brian Mildenberg asked Monday that he be transferred to a mental hospital, saying he believes his client has “acute schizophrenia,”

Prosecutors sought a psychiatric exam, calling the defendant a “threat to society.” The judge ordered such an exam and said he would decide on the transfer request after that is done.
