HARTLY, Del. (AP) - Delaware State Police say a man who stopped to help an apparently stranded motorist had his vehicle carjacked.

It happened about 10:30 p.m. Sunday near Hartly. Troopers say the man stopped his car on Lockwood Chapel Road to help a woman who appeared to be having car trouble.

Police say the man started the woman’s car and as he was getting out of the vehicle, he was struck on the head with an unknown object by another person and knocked unconscious.

Authorities say when the man regained consciousness, his car was gone. He went to a nearby home and called 911.

Troopers say the man was taken to a hospital with head injuries.
