EVERETT, Wash. (AP) - Several families have been displaced after a fire ripped through an apartment complex in southern Everett.

The Daily Herald of Everett reports (https://bit.ly/1KxbZL0 ) that 29 people, including nine children, were forced out of their homes after a fire Saturday night.

Everett Fire Department Marshal Rick Robinson says the building was fairly large. One apartment had smoke and flames coming out of the window when crews arrived on the scene. They were able to extinguish the blaze in about 20 minutes.

Volunteers from the Snohomish County chapter of the American Red Cross provided assistance to those affected by the fire.

Robinson says the cause of the fire hasn’t been determined, but the flames appear to have started in the kitchen. Estimated damages to the building were not immediately available.
