PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (AP) - A three-judge panel is meeting in Parkersburg this week to hear a petition seeking Mayor Robert Newell’s removal from office.

The hearing is scheduled for Thursday and Friday at the Wood County Judicial Building in Parkersburg.

Wood County Republican Party chairman Rob Cornelius filed the petition on behalf of a group of residents. The petition’s allegations against Newell include misconduct and neglect of duty.

Newell has denied the allegations. His lawyers say the allegations are politically motivated.

The West Virginia Supreme Court appointed circuit judges Omar Aboulhosn of Mercer County, Lawrance Miller Jr. of Preston County and Joanna Tabit of Kanawha County to hear the petition.
