BERLIN, Conn. (AP) - Heavy rain and a leaky roof have forced officials at Berlin High School to send students home.

The school says it begin dismissing students shortly after 8 a.m. Monday, because of water in the hallways and other problems.

Superintendent David Erwin says the problem is confined to the older section of the high school. He says water that had pooled on the roof leaked into the building and brought down some ceiling tiles.

The National Weather Service says Berlin received about 5 inches of rain on Sunday and more on Monday.

Erwin says a decision on whether to reopen the school Tuesday would be made before 5 a.m.
