TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - Authorities say a Trenton man struck his girlfriend with a lamp as they argued about a cell phone.

NJ.com (https://bit.ly/1AJcVMd) reports that 27-year-old Edwin Cruz faces aggravated assault and weapons charges stemming from Sunday’s incident at a city home. His bail was set at $20,000, and it wasn’t known if he has retained an attorney.

Authorities say the woman fled the home after she was hit in the face and the body with the lamp. She was treated at a hospital for facial fractures.

When the woman sought help from passers-by, Cruz allegedly told her she also would be arrested if police were called. He went back inside the home and soon emerged with arm wounds, claiming the woman had cut him.

Authorities determined, though, that Cruz didn’t have those injuries when he chased the woman out of the home.
