OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Oklahoma City police have identified a man who died after being arrested for allegedly breaking into automobiles.

Capt. Paco Balderrama said Monday that the man is 34-year-old Nicholas Lee Allred of Yukon.

Balderrama says officers responding to a call of a man breaking into vehicles near a motorcycle trail in northeast Oklahoma City last Monday found Allred being subdued by people who had bound him with a tow rope.

Allred was handcuffed by the officers, who then noticed he wasn’t breathing. Balderrama said the handcuffs were removed and an ambulance was called, but Allred was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

Balderrama says Officers Heather Bennett and William Robison remain on paid leave while the case is investigated.
