HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) - A recycling center and its operator have been indicted in what prosecutors are calling an organized criminal enterprise.

Multiple media outlets report West End Recycling Inc. in Huntington and its owner, William “Bill” Smith, were indicted by a grand jury on nearly 200 counts of conspiracy to commit a felony, receiving stolen scrap metal and engaging in an organized criminal enterprise.

The indictment returned Friday covers transactions made at the recycling center between September 2012 and February 2015, and charges the company and Smith with knowingly purchasing and receiving stolen scrap metals.

West End Recycling and Smith will receive a summons to appear in court before a judge.

State code prohibits a scrap metal dealer from purchasing, possessing or receiving 24-gauge telecommunications wire without written documentation authorizing the sale.
