MENASHA, Wis. (AP) - Hundreds of people united on a pedestrian bridge in Menasha in a show of unity for a community recovering from a random fatal shooting.

Residents gathered on both sides of the Fox Cities Trestle Trail bridge Sunday evening and walked to the middle where they joined hands during an event that organizers called “Hands Over the Fox.”

WLUK-TV (https://bit.ly/1d94mPT ) reports Town of Menasha Chairman Dale Youngquist told the invited the crowd to “unite to reclaim the Trestle Trail” for the community.

Four weeks have passed since a gunman, Sergio Valencia del Toro, opened fire on the bridge, killing Jon Stoffel, his 11-year-old daughter, Olivia and another man, Adam Bentdahl, before killing himself. Stoffel’s wife, Erin, was also shot and survived.

Bentdahl’s mother, Nancy, says she’s grateful for the healing the event provided. She says it’s what her son would have wanted.
