COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Police in central Ohio say the death of a 17-year-old boy who was reported to have fallen into a quarry appears to be an accident.
Columbus police say medics were called Monday afternoon and found the teenager critically hurt on the floor of the quarry, about 8 miles northwest of downtown. Police say the teen, identified as Colin Jourdan, was rushed to a hospital, where he died.
Police say homicide detectives investigated what happened, and the initial evidence indicates it was an accident. The investigation is ongoing.
WCMH-TV reports that police said the teen slid down an embankment while walking along a ridge with two friends and fell about 90 feet from a ledge into the drained quarry.
The station reports another student drowned at the same site in 2010.
