DALTON, Ga. (AP) - Dalton police say the wife of a Whitfield County 911 dispatcher took her own life in front of her estranged husband in the parking lot of his workplace.

The Chattanooga Times Free-Press (https://bit.ly/1SPN0bC ) reports the woman drove to the center Sunday morning to talk to the man about their impending divorce. Police department spokesman Bruce Frazier says the husband was standing by the truck while the woman sat in the driver’s seat.

Frazier says the woman reached for a handgun in the truck, put it to her head and fired. Ambulance crews responded, but the woman was dead. She did not leave a note explaining her actions.

Frazier says the couple’s names were being withheld because their son was out of town and had not been notified.
