ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - Alaska State Troopers say two inmates were caught as they tried to escape from the Seward prison.

The Alaska Dispatch News (https://is.gd/7oOZ19) reports the inmates were detained as they tried to climb a wall at the Spring Creek Correctional Facility.

Alaska Department of Corrections officials say the inmates tried to climb an inner perimeter fence in the prison recreation yard at 7:45 p.m. Thursday. Officials say the incident was immediately noticed and stopped by correctional officers.

Troopers say they were notified before 9 p.m. Thursday.

Corrections officials say in a prepared statement that it’s standard policy that “any time an inmate breaches the fence, an alleged escape attempt is considered.”

Troopers say charges are being forwarded to the District Attorney’s office. The incident remains under investigation.
