GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (AP) - Prosecutors say a man was justified when he fatally shot another man who brandished a shotgun in front of his home in Fruita.

Mesa County District Attorney Pete Hautzinger says Paul Delancey was within his rights when he shot 27-year-old Joshua Chasteen in the chest in April.

The Grand Junction Daily Sentinel reports (https://goo.gl/NMc4ib ) Chasteen was armed with a gun when he jumped in the bed of a pickup driven by Delancey’s wife. Donna Delancey called her husband, who told her to drive home.

The DA says Chasteen was shot during a struggle with Paul Delancey in Delancey’s front yard, and that Chasteen had methamphetamine, marijuana and alcohol in his system.

Prosecutors haven’t said if Chasteen and the Delanceys knew each other, but Donna Delancey says she had never met the man before.
