WILLISTON, Vt. (AP) - Vermont state police say a man has suffered severe smoke inhalation in a fire that largely destroyed his Williston home.

The Williston Fire Department was called to the scene of the fire on South Road at about 3 a.m. Friday. Officials say it took several hours to contain the blaze.

Authorities say the 53-year-old homeowner and sole occupant at the time of the fire jumped from a second floor window. He was taken to UVM Medical Center, where he is still being treated for smoke inhalation and other injuries.

Officials say the cause of the fire is still under investigation but is not considered to be suspicious. They say damage to the house is estimated to be about $250,000.
