BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Ray Belton has been selected as the new president of the Southern University system and chancellor of its Baton Rouge campus.

Southern’s Board of Supervisors made the selection Friday.

Belton is currently the chancellor of Southern’s Shreveport campus.

In March, the board voted to consolidate the jobs of system president and Baton Rouge campus chancellor.

Belton will replace Ronald Mason Jr. as president. Mason leaves June 30 to become president of the University of the District of Columbia.
