DETROIT (AP) - The Detroit Tigers optioned starting pitcher Shane Greene to Triple-A Toledo.

Greene is 4-6 with a 5.82 ERA in 13 games. He allowed only one run in his first three games but has struggled since.

“Obviously Shane pitched extremely well early, struggled a little bit lately. I think we’re hoping it’s a situation where he can go back there and regain the form, regain the movement on the sinker, work on the change-up,” Tigers manager Brad Ausmus said. “He’s got excellent stuff, he’s as hard a worker as we’ve got in the clubhouse. Still think he’s got an extremely bright future.”

Detroit acquired the 26-year-old in a three-team deal from the New York Yankees during the offseason, which also included the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The Tigers recalled lefthanded pitcher Ian Krol from Toledo to replace Greene on the roster.
