STANFIELD, Ariz. (AP) - Authorities say a driver traveling the wrong-way near the community of Stanfield has died after crashing into another vehicle.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety says the collision happened Friday around 11:15 p.m. on I-8.

According to investigators, a pickup truck traveling eastbound collided with a passenger vehicle in the westbound lanes.

The male driver of the pickup was pronounced dead at the scene.

The male driver of the other car and a male juvenile passenger were airlifted to a hospital in Phoenix with serious injuries. A third occupant of that car did not need hospitalization.

DPS will release the identities of those involved pending notification of next of kin.

The investigation is ongoing but impairment has not been ruled out.
