TOWNSEND, Del. (AP) - Delaware State Police say one man is dead after his Jeep ran off the road and struck a utility pole.

Police say the man, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the car out of the driver’s side window after the Jeep rolled onto its side and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say they are not certain when the accident occurred but that the wreck was discovered by a passing motorist just after 3:30 a.m. on Saturday.

Police say the Jeep Liberty was traveling northbound on Dexter Corner Road just south of Townsend, veered off the road and began to overturn. The Jeep then struck a utility pole, splitting it in half.

Authorities have not released the man’s name.
