NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - Authorities say a prisoner briefly escaped from police custody while being treated at a northern New Jersey hospital, the second time that has happened there this year.

NJ.com (https://bit.ly/1TjAgKI ) reports 34-year-old Martin Sanchez walked out of University Hospital in Newark around 7 a.m. Saturday. City police officers spotted him about an hour later and captured him without incident.

Police declined to provide further details about the escape, citing the ongoing investigation. They also didn’t disclose what type of treatment Sanchez was getting at the hospital.

Authorities say Sanchez will face an escape charge. He had been arrested Tuesday for alleged possession of drug paraphernalia.

The escape comes about three months after another prisoner, 46-year-old Elijah Shabazz, escaped while being treated at the hospital. He was captured about six weeks later.
