CLEVELAND (AP) - Four people were pulled uninjured from Lake Erie after their boat capsized near Kelley’s Island in Ohio.

The Coast Guard in Cleveland says a crew from its Marblehead station rescued the boaters Friday afternoon. They were in the water with their life jackets on when the Coast Guard arrived and were evaluated and released by EMTs.

One boater used a cellphone to notify the Coast Guard that the vessel was taking on water and provided his location before losing communication.

The Coast Guard release Saturday also said cellphones should be a backup communication method since they often don’t work offshore or when wet. Officials say a VHF-FM marine radio or personal locator beacon should be the primary notification method to alert other area boaters who may be able to help.
